ADVERTISING MATERIAL AND PROOFS

FILE FORMATS, PROOFS, AND REPRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES

If the supplied material for an advertising insertion meets the accepted specifications, Rogers Publishing will ensure that the reproduction matches the material, within industry standards. Rogers Publishing can not accept responsibility for material (files and/or proofs) not supplied to accepted specifications, or for colour trapping.

For the best reproduction results, files should be supplied in one of the Magazines Canada endorsed ISO accredited formats; PDF/X-1a:2001 (preferred format for Rogers), or a generic PDF file formatted to Rogers' specifications is also acceptable.

Application files (QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Pagemaker...) are not final material and can create unpredictable reproduction results. These working files have to be reprocessed before they appear in print. The outcome of this process can vary, depending on the workflow and hardware used. Approved file formats are locked in and remove the chance of undesired results.

For optimum reproduction Rogers Publishing requires a contract colour proof generated from a file formatted to MAC/Rogers specifications.

All Rogers publications are produced to Magazines Canada Specifications; Contract proofs are used as an additional target to help the Printer achieve the best possible colour reproduction within these standards.

All supplied proofs must be made from the final supplied file. If a proof is not made from the final supplied file,
it may not represent what is actually in the material.

CONTRACT PROOFS

A contract proof must be properly calibrated and include a colour control bar. It must be output at 100% size, and be clearly identified with the job ID and the proofing system used.

A contract colour proof needs to meet Magazines Canada specifications (www.magazinescanada.ca). Magazines Canada adheres to the SWOP specifications for magazine publishing (www.swop.org).
Please check SWOP certified devices for an updated list of certified proofing systems.

NON-CONTRACT PROOFS

A proof not made to the specifications listed above can only be used as a guide for colour and content, Rogers Publishing can not accept responsibility for any colour reproduction concern for ad material supplied without a contract colour proof.

Ad material which is supplied with a non contract colour proof (a desktop colour laser, a fax...) will be run to Magazines Canada Specifications. Non-contract proofs made from approved format files are suitable for checking colour break and content only, not for specific colour matches on press.

SOFTPROOFS / NO HARD COPY PROOF

Rogers Publishing can not accept any responsibility for the reproduction of any material supplied without a physical proof. Please do not send low resolution PDF files as proofs.
